D'nero Speaks on His Own Mobile App, New Single, New Album, Mixtape Success and Much More in This Exclusive Interview

July 3, 2012

Q: What's going on D'nero?

D'nero: Nothing much man, just working like always.

Q: What moves are you making that we will see from you in the near future?

D'nero: Well I will be having a new app that will be available for iPhone and Android, which I plan to have up and running by September 1st. The app will be for fans to keep updated with what is going on in my career without having to look online, it will be right on your phone with a click on my icon. I've been trying to come out with new ventures and expand my brand everywhere.

Q: It seems that you are very business-minded.

D'nero: I feel like today in the music industry, you need to be. You need to be able to handle everything yourself and find ways outside of just music to make a living. Music comes first and foremost but I can't just rely on music to pay my bills.

Q: Well as far as your music, what are you currently working on?

D'nero: I have a new single that will be out sometime this summer, it will be the 2nd single off of my debut album as a signed artist. I'm also working on the album, which is at its final stages right now.

Q: What can we expect from this new album? compared to your previous album?

D'nero: You can expect to hear my production on the whole album except for maybe 2-3 songs. This is an album that I created pretty much all musical content for. That is a first for me, because I don't usually put a lot of my production on a full-length body of work. I'm excited for people to hear it.

Q: Will your album have any features?

D'nero: Of course. Most, if not all of my label-mates will be on this new album, as well as artists i've worked with in the past, and artists that I've been on tour with. I like working with other talented artists, it keeps me at the top of my game.

Q: When can we expect to see it on iTunes and everywhere else? And do you have a title?

D'nero: As of right now, I would expect to see it in stores this fall. The recording process is pretty much wrapped up for me. I've been working on so much music that I honestly haven't even had time to think of a title yet. I should have a name in the next couple weeks or so.

Q: Very nice. I know you put out a lot of mixtapes. Will you have another mixtape out in 2012?

D'nero: There is always new mixtapes in the works. My next mixtape will be titled "H.A.F. Way Gone". It is actually already complete, but my previous mixtape [GG3] is doing so well that it is better for me to wait it out til the 4th quarter, I would like to have Nu Jerzey Devil host it. Gotta keep it jersey.

Q: I look forward to that. I did see that your mixtape is doing exceptionally well on Datpiff, you must be proud.

D'nero: Extremely. I think it is funny that you see labels and artists just throwing money at everything these days. GG3 had a budget of $0, I spend literally nothing on that project and it has over 16,000 downloads and climbing, on its way to going Bronze. Now if I can do that without spending a penny, literally, then watch what I can do with funding behind me. My album will answer that question for you.

Q: Confident huh?

D'nero: If I wasn't confident in what I do, I would be in the wrong business. Look at my stats, I have every right to be confident.

Q: Very true. So your birthday is coming up right? What do you have planned? And how old will you be?

D'nero: Yessir, I'm about to be 22. I'm headed back to NJ to see my friends and family. I'll be in Atlantic City going crazy with my closest friends.

Q: I bet your excited for that. Is there anything else you would like to share before we wrap things up?

D'nero: Shout out to everybody who supports me and believed in me, I love all of you for that. Also like to shout out to the boss Big Mike, my labelmates Ciryl [Da Great], Heena Klan and Dj House, and all of my people out here in Chi Town.

Q: It was nice talking to you.
